Chile is the next country preparing to welcome visitors again as it plans to reopen its borders on November 23.
The world is gradually starting to open up again, despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The latest country to open its borders is Chile. The official announcement was made by the Ministry of Health last week that the South American country will accept tourists again from November 23.
This is after eight months of closed borders. As with other countries that are reopening, new requirements will be put in place, while a measured approach is taken to kick start tourism.
Visitor Requirements For Entering Chile
International visitors must have proof of a negative COVID-19 test result, performed within 72 hours of traveling. It is also required that they complete a new online Health Passport 48 hours or less before boarding their flight. Visitors must further take out a health insurance policy to cover any COVID-19 issues during their stay in the country.
For those visitors traveling from high-risk countries, a 14 day quarantine is mandatory, should they arrive in Chile between November 23 and December 7.
Chile’s Undersecretary of Health, Paula Daza, said in a statement, “We are opening the borders with prudence, taking the necessary safeguards. We hope that these reunions, especially of those binational families that have been separated, can become a reality, with all the necessary self-care measures to avoid contagion. Chileans and foreigners, I ask that we take care of each other.”
Chile’s government also hopes to put a contact tracing app into operation so that visitors can be informed of any possible COVID-19 exposure. However, as yet no plans have been finalized.
Flights to Chile
Chile will open the Santiago de Chile international airport this month and direct flights will be scheduled from Amsterdam, Buenos Aires, Guayaquil, Lima, Madrid, Miami, New York, Panama and Sao Paulo. It is expected that more flights will be added in the near future.
While the country is reopening its borders, however, travelers are recommended to check the local public health guidelines to find out if any local curfews are in place. As with most countries, face coverings or masks are mandatory in public places and social distancing rules apply.

What Does Chile Have To Offer?
Chile is a surprisingly scenic country in South America that includes the driest desert in the world, the Atacama Desert, while heading through diverse landscapes of glacial fields, volcanoes, fertile valleys, ancient forests and fjords. For anyone with a love of nature, hiking, mountain climbing and exploring, this is the ideal location.
On the Patagonian steppe, travelers can view the iconic Torres del Paine (Towers of Paine), granite pillars that tower over the finest national park in South America. This has been a part of UNESCO’s Biosphere Reserve system since 1978. In the park itself, beautiful lakes, forests, rivers and one blue glacier and be seen.
The cities are full of historic architecture and excellent restaurants serving the local, traditional cuisine. Chile also has a great wine culture and produces rich reds, floral rosés and crisp, delicious whites. Here the important concept is la buena mesa (the good table) where you relax with great company to enjoy an excellent meal.
