Friday saw a new program open its doors at Universal Studios Hollywood for dining, shopping and socially distanced character interactions.
While the COVID-19 pandemic continues, some good news has come out of Universal Studios Hollywood. The park mostly remains closed due to the pandemic, but has opened its doors on Friday, March 12 for a new mini-reopening.
Universal Studios Hollywood ‘Taste of Universal’
Similar to a program run at Disneyland, the mini-reopening of Universal Studios Hollywood allows patrons to enjoy shopping, dining and socially-distanced character interactions at the home of Harry Potter, The Simpsons and the Despicable Me Minions.
Dubbed “Taste of Universal,” the program offers visitors weekend access to selected theme areas where they can enjoy dining and shopping. Patrons must be aware that capacity will be limited. Guests will have their temperatures checked on arrival and must wear masks and follow social-distancing rules throughout.
Where can you go in Universal Studios Hollywood?
Visitors will be able to explore the streets of Hogsmeade village in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction. Here there is a choice of shopping options and dining is available at Three Broomsticks Fish & Chips, Butterbeer and Sticky Toffee Pudding. Other dining options are available in Springfield, the home of The Simpsons, including Suds McDuff’s Hot Dog House, Krusty Burger, Kwik-E-Mart and the Lard Lad Donut Cart.
Besides these options, patrons can also visit other restaurants in the park, including Hollywood & Dine, Cocina Mexicana and City Snack Shop. Another great shopping offer for visitors is the new addition, The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash store.
When is Taste of Universal available?
From March 12, patrons will be able to visit Taste of Universal from noon to 7 pm, Fridays through Sundays.
Ticket prices are $44 on Fridays and $49 for Saturdays and Sundays. Children’s ticket prices at $25 on all days. Every ticket includes five menu items for adults and three for children, plus additional food can be purchased if required.
Mini-reopening at Disneyland
The Taste of Universal offering comes ahead of a similar event to start at Disneyland on March 18. However, the Anaheim Park will likely come on strong, with a fuller reopening in late April. Orange County officials anticipate that the region will be in the more permissible Orange tier of California’s reopening plan by then. This means that Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm next door should be able to reopen rides at 25 percent capacity for in-state residents. So far, however, the outlook for Los Angeles-based parks like Universal is less certain.
Governor Gavin Newsom has recently announced that all California theme parks will be able to reopen on April 1. However, the state’ reopening plan does limit how far they can proceed. Los Angeles may be able to move out of the most restrictive Purple tier and into the Red tier by Monday. However, county officials are unsure how soon the region will head into the Orange tier. Los Angeles county parks in the Yellow tier, including Universal and Six Flags Magic Mountain, will be allowed to run at 15 percent capacity.
