You Can Visit The Seychelles If You Have Had The COVID-19 Vaccine

You Can Visit The Seychelles If You Have Had The COVID-19 VaccineThe Seychelles are opening to international travelers, as long as they have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

As the COVID-19 vaccination gets rolled out in many countries around the world, traveling is becoming easier. Some countries are now doing away with quarantine requirements, under certain conditions. This includes the 115-island nation of the Seychelles who will now welcome international travelers who can provide a certificate of vaccination, as well as proof of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure.

The Seychelles Open To International Tourists

Visitors can once again head to the exotic Seychelles, as long as they have proof of a COVID-19 vaccination, along with a negative PCR test, taken 72 hours prior to arrival in the islands. However, visitors are only eligible to travel there at least two weeks after receiving their second vaccine dose.

Travelers are required to upload their certificate of vaccination, together with proof of the negative PCR test, on the Seychelles’ Travel Authorization application portal before departure, together with their flight and accommodation details and their passport information.

Anyone who is not vaccinated is still unable to enter the country and this rule will be in place until mid-March when the Seychelles expects to have a little under three-quarters of the local adult population vaccinated.

About the Seychelles

The beaches of the Seychelles are the main attraction, with their clean sand and turquoise waters, backed by the proverbial waving palm trees, while surrounded by lush and green hills and fascinating granite boulders. Snorkeling and scuba diving are also big attractions here, due to the abundant and colorful marine life off its shores.

Meanwhile, when it comes to accommodation, few places do ocean-side luxury like the Seychelles. The largest island and entry point to the Seychelles is Mahé, with its fabulous and luxurious resorts, excellent restaurants and glorious beaches. The small capital city of Victoria is also a worthy visit.

However, Mahé is also the busiest island in the Seychelles, with lovely La Digue and Praslin just a short boat ride away. Further out in the islands, peaceful and almost abandoned islands can be found for those who truly want to get away from everything.

Nature in the Seychelles

Those interested in nature should head to the World Heritage-listed Vallée de Mai, one of only two places in the world where the rare coco de mer palm grows in its natural state. Birders will appreciate the birdlife, including the Seychelles bul bul, the Seychelles warbler, the blue pigeon and the endangered black parrot.

A series of three hiking trails here take visitors through a primeval forest which was completely untouched until the 1930s. Here, it is possible to see the giant bronze gecko and 14 species of reptiles and amphibians.

The Seychelles And Tourism

Reopening the Seychelles to international visitors is important, as travel and tourism contribute around 65 percent of the island nation’s GDP.

The Seychelles’ tourism and foreign affairs minister, Sylvestre Radegonde, recently said in a statement that they hope the new protocols will open up the tourism industry for local residents, especially the small hotels that are currently struggling on Mahé, La Digue and Praslin.

Radegonde added that they hope that opening up to international visitors again will also provide the kick start the island nation’s economy desperately needs.
