In fact, the fort, with its four cannons, was constructed in 1741 to defend the British possession from Spanish invaders. Meanwhile, the whole family can enjoy a guided tour of the fort from Monday through Sunday, from 8 am to 3 pm.

3. Pirates of Nassau Museum

Not too far away from Aquaventure, Pirates of Nassau Museum introduces the family to replica pirate ships and fascinating details about the Bahamas’ pirate past. The whole family can learn about such infamous pirates as “Blackbeard” Edward Teach or “Black” Sam Bellamy.

The kids can also learn the history of the pirates’ female counterparts, Mary Read and Anne Bonny. It’s a whole new way of looking at pirates of the Caribbean, without the fictional character, Captain Jack Sparrow!

4. Ardastra Gardens & Wildlife Conservation Center, Nassau

Ardastra Garden and Wildlife Conservation Center in Nassau is home to more than 130 species of animals and is perfect for children of all ages. Families can interact with mammals in the petting zoo and feed the birds. Meanwhile, macaws, swans, lory parrots and peafowls walk around in the shade of the coconut palms and mango trees. For those with the time, the center offers four-week-long summer camps, where the kids can learn more about wildlife.

5. Lucayan National Park, Grand Bahama

Lucayan National Park on Grand Bahama offers off-road tours, kayaking and gorgeous beaches. Located near Freeport, and with its sprawling jungle landscape, this playground is perfect for kids of all ages. Families can enjoy a canoe tour of the mangrove forests (above) or a jeep tour of the rainforest for a true adventure.
